Otakon 2011 AMV TRIVIA CONTEST
WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

Here's the deal. It takes about an hour to seat everyone that we possibly can into the AMV Contest. During that time, we show some trivia cards on the screen so that people don't get too bored and have to *shudder* talk to their neighbors and stuff. This is where you come in. I need a bunch of new trivia cards for this year but I haven't watched anime in years and most of what I've learned about Japanese culture has come from dating sims, which I'm told are not all that accurate in their portrayal of everyday Japanese life. Who knew.

And the end of these rules, you'll find a link to the trivia submission form, but I suggest not skipping ahead. There's important learnings on this page.

  1. First, let's get this out of the way, the grand prize is a Netstream 2000.
    1. This is the magic behind the Otakon contest, that lets us play mpeg2 AMVs for hours on end without embarassing dual-display issues and Windows clicky sounds in the background.
    2. It is a PCI card. Not PCI Express.
    3. It will not work well with Windows 7 x86.
    4. It will not, nor ever will work with a 64-bit OS.
    5. It does not include the YPrPb breakout cable, and uses a NON-STANDARD pin layout for said cable, so you're on your own if you want to use anything higher than S-Video.
    6. It only outputs 480i video. Yes, Otakon (and a lot of other respectable contests) have been showing your stuff in 480i this whole time. And it still looked THAT GOOD.
    7. It's guaranteed to be functional. Whether or not you can make it work on your system is up to you. I am not your tech support, though I WILL provide stable drivers for it (The latest drivers are NOT stable!)
  2. This contest is NOT affiliated with Otakon or Otakorp. This is Vic putting up his own little contest on his own dime, so don't bug Otakon with questions.
  3. The winner will be decided based on the number of trivia questions that I choose to use. The person who gets the most trivia questions actually used during the trivia contest gets the prize.
  4. This means that yes, you can, and SHOULD send in multiple entries!
  5. Convention attendance is not mandatory nor will it help your chances of winning.
  6. The contest is open to everyone. EVERYONE.

Here's a diagram of what the cards will look like, and what information we are asking for.

Here's what we're looking for on the submission form:

  1. Question: This is the question that is posed to the audience.
  2. Correct Answer: This is the correct answer to the question.
    1. We'll mix up the placement on each card so that every answer is not "A".
  3. Wrong Answers 1-3: These are the wrong answers.
  4. Your Name: This is what you want displayed on screen. Every card sent in will have a spot at the bottom that says "Question submitted by __________".
    1. This does not have to be your real name, but as it will be seen by the public, keep it clean.
  5. Email: Your Email address so that I can contact you if you win.
  6. Answer Card: This is the followup card that is displayed along with the answer. It elaborates on the answer (See the second picture above).

Tips for WINNING

  1. Be Charlie Sheen. He's got tiger's blood.
  2. If your trivia is about a specific show, make it interesting to NON-FANS of the show. Nobody cares what Eva unit Shinji pilots. It's a pointless factoid. It IS however somewhat interesting to know that most of the characters in Evangelion are deliberately named after battleships.
  3. Trivia can be about anime, video games, AMVs, or Japanese culture, so you've got lots of subject matter to choose from.
  4. Type in English. If I can't figure out what you're trying to say, I'm not using your question.
  5. SEND AS MANY ENTRIES AS YOU WANT.
  6. Interesting WRONG ANSWERS can be entertaining too.

Submission deadline is 1:00AM EST JULY 14th 2011

The final decision as to which questions make the final cut will be made solely by me, Vic Boruta.
